Ah, so the Democratic administration is quietly dismantling medicare and funneling our taxpayer money to private insurance companies.

The phrase "Taxpayer money" has been the most destructive force in our society since RayGun used it to distract the people from the truth of federal finance. It effectively states "corporations and the oligarchy are the source of our money and must be enabled to keep supplying it to us". It is the center of the worship of markets, neoliberalism, that has spread across the globe in just a few decades.

There is no "taxpayer money". All money is the result of the currency-issuing federal government spending in deficit. Taxation drives our need for the money our government creates at will and can determine many factors in our economy via its distribution. However, it cannot "pay for" federal spending after it is applied to the national debt. All federal spending is brand new money created at will by Congress.

Even purpose dedicated taxes, such as for Social Security or Medicare only serve to draw down the spending power of the constituents. This is the purpose served by the bonds that the funds are represented by. They "destroy" money in the private sector with a promise to repay in the future. This is why such programs are threatened when the debt ceiling issue is paraded out to frighten voters into accepting fewer benefits from their government and relying more on private debt to fund their economy.
