America is both the richest nation on earth and among the poorest. A lot of attention is diverted to those who have been successful at accumulating "personal" wealth while institutional wealth in America is barely at 3rd world level for the majority.
When it is assumed that only markets can deliver wealth it really becomes a zero-sum contest between the classes. However, this denies the prolific evidence of many countries in which citizens assume their right to basic healthcare, education, food, and often even housing.
Those countries are not without their uber wealthy and the capitalism that created them. They simply provide what needs are common to all as a starting point for any comparison. If one is wealthy, America is probably the best place on earth to assure they remain so. But, if one is poor, or lower working class, it is likely the worst environment in which to live or elevate themselves from their condition. Being poor in America is a very expensive proposition with little hope of escape.
