America’s constitution guarantees freedom of the press but failed to mandate its purpose. I don’t think our founders could have possibly envisioned our current situation with the people having “no, zero, nada, actual representation of their interests. They assumed that opposition to tyranny would always be present, not just a moderated lesser evil choice that can only seem to “ask” the Nazis nicely not to be so harsh on the people.

We once had a fairness doctrine for the media, but that was, as most legislation beneficial to the people in the last 3/4 century has been, destroyed by the “opposition” party that should be more accurately labeled as the “enabling” party. Repealing the doctrine and deregulation of the media have proven to be the downfall of democracy, perhaps irretrievably. Allowing the choice between presenting a protected voice of the people and consolidating into a few immensely profitable corporations should have been an easily predictable outcome.

America is in shock from all of the wanton destruction of assumed institutions prosecuted by Trump. They should, but likely won’t, research how such concentration of power was achieved. If they do, they will find most has its roots in the Obama and Clinton administrations.
