Attempting to place a singular label onto any economic system is a sure way to become lost in the weeds of semantics. Many would say that America is a socialist nation because it offers workers a safety net that provides some protections from pure capitalism. However, if the workers owned the means of production why would they allow the actions that caused them to need those protections? What worker co-operative would vote for shipping their own jobs offshore if it were within their power to control?
