Biden never wanted the job and was never expected to win. He is in the race to prevent any progressive from receiving half of the first-round delegates at the convention. This would allow the superdelegates to pick the nominee as they did so blatantly in ’16. The Democratic party has an aversion to democracy and will pull out all stops to prevent a progressive from winning on the party’s ticket to actually legislate many of the overwhelmingly popular platform issues the people want.
The party has positioned itself as a roadblock to progressive policies in our government since the Clinton administration. The result has been a backlog of potential momentum to the left, much like a tightly wound spring. Should a true progressive win and carry a Senate majority on their coattails our nation would drastically change direction, to the dismay of most deep-pocket donors to the party. I take a lot of criticism for stating this, but Trump campaigned and beat Hillary from her left on every issue except immigration.
America has been receptive to progressive policies for some time and only the Democratic party has stood in the way of sweeping change. Biden, as the no-show President of the Senate for eight years and largely responsible for the domination of McConnel has a lot to answer for. He could find himself the fall-guy for the many failures of the Obama Presidency if he remains in the race.
