Cutting federal spending is also a way of controlling inflation. This is why MMT proponents advocate strongly for a federal job guarantee that is funded by new money creation but administered by state and local leaders.

By moving away from the concept of balancing the "budget" (stealing the resources the government uses) and toward a full employment policy the government becomes a major conduit of those dollars at the lower levels of the economy. It also becomes the wage and cost setter.

Given that such a job program would be countercyclical to the business cycle, it would act as the control valve for new money injection, preventing damage to supply chains and giving state and local leaders essentially free labor to further the common good.
