Economist Michael Hudson nails it again:

You are admirable as a voice for the people, which almost caused me to not criticize this posting, - - almost. However, if you are a follower of Hudson's writings you would not equate government's spending to the need for taxation. They simply aren't connected as a dependency.

As long as we are made to believe that there is a limited amount of money available to spend and that is dependent upon our ability to extract it from the most formidable opposition on the planet we will not see funding of such things as climate change mitigation or a guaranteed job program or UBI at a livable wage, both of which Hudson advocates.

The only way we can effectively deal with the opposition to public wealth policies from the oligarchs, especially since the Democratic party went over to the neoliberal dark side, is to make them irrelevant to funding the public purpose. We can't do that if we also expect the oligarchs to fund it and deny the Constitutional mandate of Congress to create the currency "for the general welfare".
