Firstly, the PEOPLE who were made the brunt of an obvious illegal political stunt were being "cared for" by the US Federal Government, not the citizens of any "red" state specifically. They were asylum seekers who were in compliance with our immigration law as mandated in our country.

Secondly, the perpetrators of this stunt were considerably more in violation of the oath of office they willingly made and the laws that provide a separation of power and responsibility. Many of those were in the employment of various governments and could, at minimum, have that employment terminated, even if they were elected to their jobs. If DeSantis had any ambition of becoming President he may have made that an impossibility by his own reckless action.
