For instance, I didn’t see Mango Mussolini winning.

Most didn't, but what options did the populace movement against neoliberalism (even if they couldn't define it) have once Bernie was used as a Judas goat for Hillary's ambitions? Obama was so sure of her winning against the horrible candidate that she and the DNC machine hand picked to run against her that he caved on his SCOTUS nominee and ended up destroying the groundwork of Roe v Wade.

Once Trump's "grab them by the *****" video resulted in little movement in the polls the outcome was, or should have been, obvious. 2016 was a clear message to the political establishment that the people were not going to allow business as usual and the selling out of the American economy and government without a fight.

The facsist GOP may hold their loyalty for a while, but that is already waning as it refuses to to abandon its tired and proven false rhetoric of trickle down economics and present some relief for the working class that has seen a steady erosion of earnings over multiple decades and administrations representing both parties. The time may be right for a younger version of Bernie (AOC?) to break free from the neoliberal DNC and offer some "real" working class benefits, picking up where FDR left off.
