Had you asked how many current contenders would have been Republicans a few decades ago the question might have made more sense. For instance, Warren was a Republican but found herself in agreement with the Democrats as they moved to the right and the Republican party moved into crazy. Many progressives question her progressive cred because of that, but it’s important to acknowledge that the transition required no effort from Warren. She simply stayed where she was and the DNC moved to her, very much like many Mexicans who found themselves Texas citizens at one time.
