have you considered the South Korean approach? Track and trace, isolation for the infected, financial support for the isolating, widespread mask-wearing

All of those would have been effective "IF" we didn't have a complete imbicile as President at the onset of the pandemic who didn't believe in a scientific method and insisted his outrageous and dangerous "cures" would be more effective than any type of prevention.

The time for advocating for any of the measures you are suggesting was before his followers made the pandemic a political issue and generally denied science. We have been at the mercy of the virus ever since, but good luck in containing it by your methodology at this point with half the population refusing any co-operation or even logic.

The best we can hope for at this point is innoculation of the saner half of our society and leaving the insane half to their fate. This may present future problems, but it beats the war with idiots that would ensue should the government attempt your suggestions. They have literally chosen this molehill to die on.
