How much money could be made available for education, daycare, food assistance, and housing if these funds were not being sucked up by the rapacious for-profit medical consortium?

This approach toward the funding of the public good is part of the problem. Both the US and Canada have similar monetary systems and floating fiat currencies. This means that our governments "create" money on demand when they spend, regardless of their revenue positions or past spending.

They can "AFFORD ANYTHING" that can be resourced in the private sector. If there are not enough doctors, nurses, etc. to meet the increased demand (many experts claim there are plenty) then our governments can incentivize the professions as career paths by paying for the education necessary.

There is no finite pile of money that must be divided among ourselves, business, and our government. In fact, it is the spending of our governments that create the money we use in our commerce. They fund us, we don't fund them.
