I believe that child and elder care will be the first jobs created with the job guarantee, although that will be entirely the option of local and state authorities who would be given administration authority. Yes, many find themselves having to put careers on the back burner to care for parents, including me. I would prefer this to come with some formal instruction and support, as not everyone is cut out for, or even aware of, the demands such care includes.
Given the cultural benefits of having three generations in a home, I am surprised that conservatives have not forwarded some way to pay caregivers. Our culture was severely damaged by the mobility we gained in the ’50s and ‘60s that ended up separating families, first out of opportunity, but eventually from necessity as employers left regions at a whim. It isn’t unusual to have three generations in a family with roots in three different cultural/regional areas.
