I have two major issues I will be voting next year. Climate change and economic justice. They are so tightly intertwined that one could count them as one and not be entirely mistaken. It is obvious that Trump has no consideration for either, so any vote that blocks his agenda is a win, even if both are not addressed completely.
Democrats are more likely to appease public opinion, but only if they have to. Otherwise, a centrist or establishment corporate Dem will legislate for their donors. In Bernie’s case, the donors are us. He has also stuck with the same econ advisor in spite of the fact that she is very vocally opposed to taxing to pay for spending. I believe he is simply playing politics in not speaking up about her advocacy for MMT economics, knowing that a campaign is not the place to be explaining complex economic theory.
FDR didn’t always tell the truth about his economic plans either, and he had the gold standard to contend with, so it is possible to enact an agenda under the radar as long as it works. I’m very glad to see AOC step up to promote the theory (as in gravity is also still a theory) and instigate some doubt in the current econ rhetoric. I find it sad that the most push back she has gotten from mainstream economists has come from Larry Summers and Paul Krugman, both considered “liberal” Keynesians and both former Dem cabinet members.
Until another Dem comes forward with a similar complete agenda to address the urgency of climate change and to revamp our rapidly failing economy I will do whatever I can to see Bernie nominated and elected. Failing that, I will have to review my choices and the political reality of our two party system will be part of that internal debate, but not all of it. If, after 4 yrs of a complete idiot assclown running our country, a Democrat can’t overwhelmingly sweep an election it shows that our current system simply needs to collapse in on itself so it can be rebuilt around a more current framework. I am not above rooting for anarchy if I feel it is beneficial to bring about change.
