I would agree with you except that history has not proven you to be correct. All governments end up serving the status quo of power eventually. If you can figure out how to prevent our representatives from becoming wealthy in a short time on sub $200k salaries we might have a chance of reversing our course, but they would have to be the ones to write the laws that would cut their own incomes so drastically.
