If America wasn't wealthy in both resources and talent, and if it didn't have a sovereign fiat currency that allows it to "afford" anything that is denominated in that currency, I'd be in total agreement. However, the facts are that it is resource and talent rich and its currency is the product of political will, not its business or banking industry.

Six Trillion is a big number and most Americans can't really get their head around just how big. However, America has underinvested in its people for decades in the name of "privatization" and even the most ardent Democrats have bought into the free market as the solution to anything in economics.

Also, one can always depend upon scare tactic articles to proliferate whenever a Dem is elected as President or the Dems gain a majority in congress. (Looking at you) Those articles and their authors never attempt to shame a Republican President or Congress for running up the debt with tax cuts. It is only when the working class appears to be making some gains that the deficit hawks appear from every closet, nook and cranny to tell people they can't have healthcare, safe food and water, or a living standard at least as good as their parents enjoyed because "Freedom".

If the American people were to ever have an econ epiphany and suddenly understand that their democratically elected Congress can create as much money as it wants and give it anyone it chooses without a dime of revenue to "pay for" it you might be wise to lay low for a while. The truth can set you free, but it can also bite you at times when you get on the wrong side of it.
