If our government lived up to its mandate to create whatever amount of money needed to assure full employment this dynamic would have been in place all along and CEOs/shareholders would have had a much smaller piece of the pie. Instead, the self-appointed masters of the universe have used our government to shovel them money while also creating conditions that keep workers subservient.
A federal job guarantee, funded with the purse strings Congress tied closed since the '80s and managed at the state/local level, would not only create these conditions permanently, but would also work counter to the business cycle, injecting new money where and when it is needed in the private sector. Our supply chain problems are a direct result of "efficiency" in the market without federal oversight. They now threaten our economy and, along with the lack of safety nets and private savings, may bring down the world's most powerful government to third world status.
