He ran because he felt that it was an excellent opportunity to capitalize on the fear and distaste for Donald Trump in order to achieve his long awaited goal of become president.

If this were true he wouldn’t have waited so long in jumping into the race. Besides, there are plenty of people better qualified (less baggage) to win against Trump if the voters’ fear and distaste were his motivations. No one enjoys humiliation, which is what every attempt to achieve the Presidency has left Joe with.

At the time just prior to his entering the race the establishment wing of the DNC was soiling themselves over Bernie’s YUUUUGE lead in the polls and seeing the end of their neoliberal agenda in sight. The media began injecting non-declared candidates into their polling out of desperation and Biden split the difference between Bernie and his next most popular contender because of name recognition and the residual popularity of Obama.

I’m convinced that Uncle Joe doesn’t want anywhere near the oval office and only responded to pleas to run to end the cajoling from party leaders who fear a President Bernie far more than they do President Trump. Trump will always be the gift that keeps on giving for them from a purely political view and at least Biden losing (which he would certainly do) would end any potential of the neoliberal turd way party having to accept a Democratic Socialist as their standard-bearer.

The real battle between left and right at the DNC is not with Biden and Bernie, but between the status quo faux Keynesian economists that have failed the people so badly since Clinton’s Presidency and the MMT economists, primarily Dr Stephanie Kelton, that have served Bernie since his days as minority leader in the Senate Budget Committee. If any MMT economist could gain access to the bully pulpit to explain Bernie’s policies and how they are not radical the DNC would have to adjust to their reality or fold up shop and join with the RNC as its missing centrist wing.
