If we can’t manage to find a reasonably educated and involved majority of the population to vote for our leadership with some cognizance of the issues we face we might as well let the whole thing implode and see what can be salvaged from the ashes. While this is the normal course for declining empires, we have never experienced it when the empire in question has the capability of destroying the whole world, so it is quite scary to contemplate. America has seemed to manage failure in both democracy and capitalism, both of which deserved much better representation.
