If we don’t gain single-payer healthcare politically we will get it as soon as one of the explosively contagious virus’ strains takes hold here. People who refrain from seeing a Dr because of economic concerns and the massive cost that will create in a pathogen emergency will make it necessary for some entity with unlimited funding to bear that cost. Whether conservatives want to admit it or not, only the federal government fits that description sufficiently to handle big emergencies or investments on the scale of our healthcare.

Such a scenario would likely end our vulture, every person for themselves brand of capitalism in America as well after it catches much of the blame for a massive loss of life. It’s already causing >30,000 unnecessary deaths, so it won’t take much of an increase to become intolerable to a modern society, which it should already be.
