If your boyfriend can imagine that you're Tokyo, (you're better looking) we can all imagine that a coin is worth a trillion dollars and passes that worth along to the digital and paper currency we use to pay for stuff. However, no one, except possibly yourself, is giving your Tokyo image any validity via a tax liability and severe penalties for non payment. I don't want to know what other role playing you do.

That ability to levy taxes gives our currency value. Beyond that, all of the gold standard or platinum coin nonsense, including the debt itself, is a method of obscuring the fact that our currency is available to Congress in infinite quantity to fund the public purpose. However, that makes a boring utopian society, not one with extremes of winners and losers, with corrupt politicians deciding who's who.
