I’ll probably take a lot of heat for stating this, but I’ve always been a pragmatist and usually speak my mind. Please don’t take this as a personal attack on Mayor Pete, but rather, a critique of the political and media elite currently driving the narrative.

Most of those claiming Bernie’s policies are extreme or that he is “unelectable” are completely supportive of a candidate who offers the first gay couple in the White House. I am not opposed to Pete based on his sexual preference, but to assume a majority of America is ready for a gay president and First Gentleman when it has yet to elect its first female to the Presidency is risking a second term for Trump to a far greater extent than are any of Bernie’s economic policies.

Did Trump’s unabashed willingness to display his bigotry and the support he garnered for it in ’16 not teach Democrats anything? With the many serious problems America faces is Pete’s sexuality a hill they are willing to die on in this election while calling Bernie extreme for his promotion of policies that the rest of the world adopted decades ago? If so, they should give a rest to the hyperbolic claim that Trump's second term would be the end of the world.
