Is shooting one’s detractors in the town square any more murderous than calling an Uber for uninsured patients so they can go home (if they have one) and die so they don’t threaten the profits of a horribly broken national healthcare system, or worse, one’s own bloated salary largely derived from insurance and pharma ads? Matthews is an easy target because he is unattractive and an obvious drunk, but his message is not that much off target from any of those who sat around him without making a comment.

People like Matthews and his bosses would like us to identify evil by labels they feel empowered to assign, ie: socialism, communism, and accept anything that claims the label of capitalism. It’s been the case for centuries and its proponents are still cut from the same cowardly and opportunistic cloth. The neoliberalism/capitalism that Matthews defends is likely to have claimed far more victims than either socialism or communism, and certainly more than the “Democratic Socialism” Senator Sanders represents through his policies.

Every day we continue to spread the death of innocents in the world to enrich capitalists and their corporations, whether here or elsewhere, “WE” are Chris Matthews by proxy.
