It's not possible to single out either party as culprits as they both serve the same corporate masters when it comes to policy benefiting the working class. As the Democrats abandoned workers in favor of deep pocket donors they moved the Republicans to the right by simply occupying space in the center.
As Dems perfected their approach to wealthy donors (Nothing will basically change) and the MIC, which they have always supported (Obama ran as an anti-war candidate and then expanded Bush's wars while starting 5 more) the Republicans were forced to more openly supporting the fringe of libertarian radicals and southern secessionists.
This movement has all been to the right, leaving the left and center left unrepresented. It is quite obvious when one compares party platforms over a longer time frame and sees how (R) Eisenhower's platform compares to (D) Biden's. One might think there was a mistake in labeling the party each represented.
What we should take away from this it that politicians, if left to their own devices, are pandering chameleons who will say anything to obtain access to political donors. Once they achieve that access, they will not hesitate to throw their constituents under any number of busses to appease the deep pockets that they serve.
I almost would rather believe that they are this corrupt than to think they actually believe some of what they espouse, but the line between idiot and crook is often not well defined.
