Leaving insurance in place denies providers of the vast savings of having only one set of rules and forms to deal with, which is a large portion of the cost savings M4A provides. It also threatens quality of care as doctors will see no relief from the demand insurance places on their time and attention, which is said by many to be as much as 25% to fight denials of payment or gain pre-approval for tests and procedures. How long do you think insurance will remain viable if their competition is a program that pays for everything and covers everyone at less cost? I don’t see any point in giving it more time to purchase political opposition to the inevitable while having even more incentive to deny payments. The entire industry is unproductive and adds only cost to our healthcare system with no upside besides handholding for ideologues who can’t do math.
