McConnell, and his party, have been following the "ends justify the means" tactic since they captured the racists and religious extremists in the southern strategy. The Democrats have fallen in line as enablers and are much more comfortable in a minority position where they can threaten/blackmail donors with doing the people's bidding if their pockets aren't stuffed with donations.
