More progressive legislation will not be a result of defeating Republicans. It will only come about by defying the neoliberal Dems and being willing to take some losses along the way.

We have moved rightward at breakneck speed since Clinton introduced the triangulation tactic and the corporate donors of the DNC cheered from the sidelines. Progressive is a dirty word in establishment Dem vocabulary and they prove it with every vote they cast.

We (the working class) are at war with the same people establishment Dems call on for campaign support, so those Dems must be considered the enemy as well. As long as the Democratic party is described as "the place progressive legislation goes to die" progressives must take their own stand and not allow Dems to blame them if their constant incrementalism and free market efforts fail to Republican opposition.

Everyone in the DNC knows that their constituents favor progressive ideas and that their resistance to them is betrayal of their best interests. Make them own it.
