Most American fundamentalist religions have their roots in the multi-generational isolation from culture, higher education, and government in our great expansion period that stole the land from the indigenous Natives and established a population that allowed America to “claim” it. Traditional religions were perverted without challenge from any central authority and many borderline cults were established from the feuds and drama small isolated communities are prone to. Isolation breeds ignorance and intolerance and nowhere was that more evident than in America between the land grab and the advent of technology to reconnect the settlers with mainstream education and culture.
