One of the primary issues being thrown around in that circle is a balanced budget amendment. This would destroy America faster than it could be reversed, and the people promoting it know that. Also, such an amendment would require the government to increase taxation on the wealthy and corporations, even after it stripped all benefits for citizens out of the budget.

This is very much like the movement in Texas to secede from the union. It is nothing but raw meat tossed out to the uniformed. Texas would quickly be assimilated into Mexico if it didn't have the US government support it does, especially the support having the world's most stable and strongest currency. Of course, if Congress is forced to balance its budget that wouldn't be worth much either.
