Only corporatist neoliberals would ever consider compromising with fascists. That is what we have now, and it is burning us alive while removing any hope of change or even a positive movement.

FDR backed down the fascists in our country by calling them out and shaming them in public, and he only had access to print news and radio. Modern Democrats will never stand that steadfastly for the people because the fascist element is making them wealthy. The "political class" has replaced the middle class and it answers only to the power of wealth, not the people.

We can continue to bow to that power and possibly make some things a bit more comfortable before we are consumed in the fires and floods of climate change, but that is a path for cowards and appeasers.
