Our primary hurdle to overcome will be our own concept of money and how it moves through our economy. In a consumption based economy jobs aren't as important as making sure everyone can participate in the consumption of thigs produced. Essentially, everyone's job will be "consumer" and what they produce won't be related to the things consumed. Globalism has already severed that longstanding tie and that Genie isn't going back into its bottle.
America, as it exists currently, will not be a leader in the social transformation necessary to make the next quantum leap. It is too enamored with its wealthy and gives them far too much control over its economy and social structure. When the world realizes that America's global influence is now less one of economic dominance and more "bad cop", taking the cruelty being meted out to minorities and the poor on its own streets to the rest of the world, it will be met with overwhelming rejection.
