Since the '70s the driving purpose of the Democratic party has been blocking progressive policies and doing the bidding of the donor class. This is harder to do from a majority position because people expect results when they win elections. The current Democratic leadership has a history of losing in midterms and that is about to extend to Presidential years as well. It is by design.
