So, you’re ok with the party elite picking the candidate even if it is in defiance of the people’s wishes? DWS clearly stated that is the purpose of superdelegates without apology. Perhaps the party should consider a name change, as that is anything but democratic.
Anyone who knows the inside info of the last election understands that Bernie really had no shot, no matter how much the people supported him. The nomination was Hillary’s since the ’08 election as payment for her endorsing Obama and campaigning for him. Her choice of DWS as party chair, summarily ousting Kaine, as part of the deal set up the wild west primary of corruption to make double sure the vote somewhat followed the predetermined outcome. Kaine got the VP slot as compensation.
It’s quite ironic that fewer Hillary loyalists voted for Obama in ’08 than Bernie’s supporters voted for Hillary in ’16 considering how much blame he got from her camp over her loss. Chaos, disruption, corruption, death, and destruction follow that woman like dust clouds around Pigpen. The simple fact that she obtained the nomination at all offers evidence that the system is corrupted beyond repair without being torn down and rebuilt from the ground up.
The DNC establishment hasn’t picked a clear front runner yet, but the people have, and it is Bernie. It’s not from a lack of trying as is made obvious by polling across the board including Biden long before he announced. Simply pulling Biden out showed that Bernie’s support doubled any of the other contenders. Running Biden makes moot about half of anyone’s potential motivations for opposing Trump, but he appears to be the only one able to get the convention vote into the second round where the superdelegates can make their pick. They, by the way, are not even limited to the top two contenders and could easily put the third-place candidate in the running for the White House if the margins were anywhere close.
It isn’t only Bernie who doesn’t like superdelegates. Anyone who understands the damage done to the party by the neoliberal Clintons and their corporate sponsors should be irate that such a system ever became established in the party that purports to be “for the people”.
