Socialism and capitalism are both so misunderstood, and overused politically, that every spending initiative by Congress that might improve society without mandating a profit for someone is now labeled socialism. What this binary thinking has given us is “neoliberalism” that is the belief that the market system is the best method of delivering every human need and that it should be in partnership with the government so that the nation’s currency will always be available to it on demand.

Neoliberalism is the special needs cousin to capitalism, not really able to sustain itself but not entirely dependent either. It can function like a quasi-capitalism as long as it doesn’t have to make its ends meet or be held responsible for its lack of efficiency or its costs to the government that is solely responsible for its sustenance. While neoliberalism is mostly supported by the Democratic party in America it couldn’t have a better representative than the current President who’s history of bailed out failures is unmatched. This is why we will see the party go to great lengths to assure his second term in 2020. He gets them.

Because it shares many common goals with capitalism, neoliberalism has served as an acceptable substitute for most claiming to be capitalists, but any “real” capitalist would be aghast at the dependency on government that it displays. One can easily determine who is neoliberal and who is a capitalist by counting the votes for the ’08 bailout of the banking system. No true capitalist would have signed on with such blatant and massive reward for failure.
