The degradation of the USPS is just one example of the results of a mindset that demands that all federal spending on the public purpose be "paid for". It is a fool's errand that cannot be achieved and only leads downhill. The monopoly issuer of the US dollar has no need for its own dollars back to pay for its spending, having an infinite ability to create what it needs. Infinity plus any number is still infinity and any deficit spending caused by a program or investment at the federal level becomes someone's monetary asset in the private sector, not an incumbrance on future private sector productivity.
Anyone remotely familiar with spreadsheet accounting and sectoral balances used to track money worldwide should understand this intuitively, but we have allowed it to become politicized and propagandized to the great benefit of private business. If we don't figure this out quickly we are doomed to a fascist future where we must finance our own economy via bank lending "and" pay taxes on any gains that can only be realized from inflation.
