The filibuster has done more to weaken our confidence in the government and divide the country than any other feature of American politics.

I highlighted this to bring extra attention to it, not to signify my agreement. The single contributing factor most responsible for our weakened ability to self-govern has been the decades-long slide to the right by Democrats. This has resulted in a complete lack of any opposition to Republican agendas and an abandonment of the needs of the people in favor of the wants of the donor class.

The mere existence of the Senate is testimony to the distaste our founders had for democratic governance. It is designed to hobble and blockade popular legislation from the house. It is not broken in terms of its intended function. It is operating as it was designed to and establishment Democrats are taking advantage of that by representing their donors while pointing to Republicans as the problem.
