The government doesn’t create money. Neither does the central bank. It’s all in the hands of bankers, and they abuse the privilege continuously,
Private sector banks can only create credit, but that credit cannot retire itself. Only Congress and the Fed can create the high power money needed to retire debt or be net saved via deficit spending. The reserves created to allow interbank transfers spend like real money, but they are always balanced by a contract to repay from the borrower. When they are repaid, those reserves disappear as money, replaced by the public money used to retire them, and the total money supply is reduced.
