The problem with democracy is - - - democracy and the ability (propensity?) to elect representatives that are as ignorant as ourselves. Holding public office is now more a matter of reinforcing the myths and beliefs of voters than having original, or even constructive, ideas about solving problems. In this regard you are correct.
Congress may needlessly default on some of its debt and cause a worldwide economic crisis. None of us is as stupid as all of us. Until the voting public becomes comfortable with the fact that federal deficit spending is the sole source of net money in the private sector and gives up the foolishness of distrusting a democratically elected government as a core of our political system we cannot guarantee against such idiocy.
