There is a lot of talk about inflation lately, but no one ever mentions the millions of jobs that produce nothing of value and what that adds to inflation. Adopting a single-payer system would be deflationary and would require considerable injection of money into the economy to compensate for that. However, all our idiot politicians can think about is "how ya gonna payfor it?". If you attempt to "payfor" a deflationary policy by extracting even more money from the private sector you'd probably be better off, at least in economic terms, of sticking with the waste of insurance and just more tightly regulating it.
