There is certainly that. It serves to put us on notice that only misery can come from going against the established capitalist system.

However, there are many myths that this depends upon that would vanish like the morning fog if Americans weren't so easily propagandized. Even the poorest American will warn against any form of "socialism" despite clear evidence that his/her counterparts in more socialist nations are immensely better off.

Americans are also deeply suspicious of their national government and believe that their taxes are theft meant to pay for benefits that the "others" will reap in greater measure.

The truth of our economy is that the currency-issuing government "funds" us, not the other way around. Not only that but, being the monopoly issuer of our national currency means that it can "afford" anything it can resource in the private sector that is priced in that currency, including our labor as an employer of last resort setting the bar for wages and benefits.

Even if not econ literate enough to fully understand, most of the world has adapted to a government that works for them, out of necessity after their productive capacity was bombed to oblivion in multiple wars.
