This conflict is between deranged right-wing neo-fascists, who want to set up Trump as “God-Emperor,” and the rest of us who want to live in a modern, multicultural democracy.

Trump was simply a useful tool and has no qualifications to lead such an ambitious endeavor. Even if he were installed as their God-Emporer he would not be in control of anything except as a public figurehead that spoke the language of hate and victimhood.

The attack was ill-planned and went far beyond its original intention of prompting Trump's supporters in swing states to manufacture a reason to halt the election of Biden. Had the President shown any tendency toward competence and statesmanship he might have succeeded, but he chose to throw in with radicals and extremists when he should have been subduing them and restoring order.

Jan. 6 was supposed to lead to violence which Trump could use as an excuse to enforce the insurrection act and declare a state of emergency. This would’ve enabled him to remain in power.

The January 6th crowd was just a gathering of the movement's more radical and less intellectual members. This is obvious from the lack of support they are now experiencing in their legal battles. They were deemed as expendable, as was Trump, from the moment they were called together in DC.

Trump would have had to show opposition to the insurgents to invoke the power that would enable him to remain in power. His choice to offer moral, if not physical, support to them precluded his ability to act accordingly. He was, as he usually is, a victim of his ego.

This includes the Proud Boys, the Oath Keepers, the Three Percenters, various white supremacist groups, and followers of the insane QAnon conspiracy theory.

He states that American militia groups have a history of being founded by former service members.

These are only the tip of the iceberg of groups who are chomping at the bit to overthrow the federal government. I have long contended that our military is the training ground spitting out delusional and dangerous militants with a grudge against the very government they claim to be fanatically loyal to.

They all seem to suffer the same delusion, that the government established in the 18th century should remain unchanged by social standards and the needs of modern society. The percentage of veterans who are "originalists" is extremely greater than in the general population.

These delusions are obviously taught to our service members while they are in training and their day-to-day lives. Nothing else would account for the universal change in kids who otherwise would identify with their lower middle-class and poor backgrounds.

The concept of American exceptionalism which is a universal trait of most service members and veterans is also common among anti-government groups. It is a key factor tying America to the capitalist system that has been so badly misinterpreted in favor of the wealthy and corporate management that control the right wing of the GOP and many in the Democratic party.

America will soon be a majority-minority country, where there are more non-white people than people of European descent. This has driven some people of European descent insane, and they will go to war, rig elections, and engage in voter suppression to maintain white people’s stranglehold over power.

This is useful to enable the recruitment of "true believers" but is not the focus of the power behind these movements and groups. To the Kochs and other oligarchs that provide funding for much of their activity and political support in the states that tolerate them, race is not a motivator. Their primary motivation is the neutering of the only entity that is empowered to tax and regulate their commerce, the federal government.

They want to subject "all" workers to their service and only see white members of the working class as potential managers of the minorities. This is quite similar to the way the feudal royals dealt with the "merchant" class with some elevated privilege over the peasant class, but both were firmly under their control and had to look to them for their livelihood.
