This was extremely timely for me. My daughter will be having the surgery mid month and I will have it early next month. I've been very concerned about the recovery since my daughter lives with me since her husband passed a couple of months ago. Her cataracts are much worse than mine but mine are bad enough to cause me to avoid driving after dark.

My father had cataract surgery when he was about my age, which was almost forty years ago. At that time one of the mandates of successful recovery was to avoid all lifting. The second day after his surgery his tube type console TV burst into flames in his living room and he had little choice but to move it outside if he wanted to save the house.

Being a large man and with the strength a lifetime of hard work conveys, he simply picked up the TV and tossed it into the yard. His vision almost immediately began failing and he was blind within a couple of months of the incident. My trepidation concerning my upcoming surgery, as well as my daughter's, was serious and your timely article has given me a great deal of relief.
