Trade is always a washout in macroeconomics as we get goods that represent resources and labor for dollars we pull out of our backsides at will. It is only the reluctance to pull out some dollars to compensate workers that causes damage to the economy. As long as Americans believe their government has to “get” money via taxation or borrowing to spend we will remain stuck on stupid (a phrase that took on new meaning in ’16) and workers/small business will suffer.

The US government, as the monopoly issuer of the US dollar, is only constrained by available resources in its spending and can “afford” anything for sale priced in the US dollar it creates at will. That includes any excess labor that the private sector rejects. The standard rhetoric of a job is available to anyone who wants to work badly enough and any inability to find employment is the fault of the worker has always been BS that gives great advantage to employers. Underlying any policy of Trump’s will always be the disdain for working-class Americans that runs in his blood.

America is so anti-worker that it actually uses its monetary policy to force involuntary unemployment on a predetermined percentage of the labor pool as “inflation control”, completely mindless of suffering and racial discord this causes. As long as we continue to believe the myths of self-sufficiency and reject the concept of beneficial social wealth that is the “purpose” of any government we will continue to degrade our society and eventually fall into the waiting maw of full-on fascism, the end game of unrestrained capitalism and corrupt government.
