Trump, as awful as he is, is merely a symptom of the corruption that lies at the core of the Democratic party. He is not that much different from any Republican, including Bloomberg, in his lack of humanity and values and the GOP agenda hasn’t changed that much in a century. He is perhaps the best representative of the GOP to date.

Our problem, that has broken our entire political system, is that his complete lack of empathy also represents the Democratic party quite well and there is no longer a “resistance” to the age-old evils of greed and corruption available to voters. I still believe we dodged a bullet in the ’16 election that gave us Trump when Hillary lost. Trump, after all, ran well to her left on most issues and utilized her horrendous record in public office to make his case. Yes, he lied his ass off, but that doesn’t change the dynamics of his campaign or the rejection of her corruption by voters.

Trump’s cynical disregard for the truth only makes me more mistrusting of Johnnie-come-late progressives that seem to be everywhere in the Democratic field. They, like Hillary, have records that can be easily discovered. There is only one candidate in that field that has a consistent progressive record over decades. Sen. Bernie Sanders is currently driving the leftward shift in the DNC and the effort to mimic his policies without actually endorsing them is now somewhat a measure of comedic relief in the Democratic field.

Yes, Trump is an enemy of all things decent in mankind, but the battle for the soul of America has little to do with him. That battle is currently being waged within the Democratic party and Bernie is winning at the moment as his opponents, one by one, show their true neoliberal selves. A new generation of progressives is calling out the previous cowards that allowed the “party of the people” to degenerate so far to become just a cheap copy of the GOP that allowed (enabled?) Trump to become President.

It isn’t wrong to stand firm in our resolve to correct decades of corruption within the DNC or the opportunists who will do and say anything to preserve that. It is our duty as Americans.
