TV's and computers have been moving toward each other for a few years now, but not with any real purpose. Only recently have TV resolution and computer speeds enabled the combining of purpose you are suggesting.

I did a similar project for my bedroom recently. The budget forced me to use a 32 inch TV instead of a computer monitor and the resolution leaves much to be desired, especially from a close viewing position. When 4K becomes affordable in that size range and standard for network and cable input it will be much better. Internet providers are now able to give us all the data we need to watch movies and videos from multiple locations with fiber optics.
