We can find some comfort in the idea that all of us together are smarter than any one of us.
If this were true we wouldn't be destroying everything around us, including ourselves and the things we depend upon for our own survival. Humanity has always ridden on the backs of, at most, 10% of its members and pledged fealty to another 10% that is barely functional, let alone capable of leadership.
The preachers and politicians have gotten us where we are by fooling the masses into that fealty, so if you're looking for humanity's leaders to pull our collective bacon out of the fire you are in denial of all known reality. Your assumption that we even have some place of importance in the new grand scheme of things yet to be discovered is not rational.
Any rational being viewing us and our planet from a non-biased perspective would see us as the problem needing fixing, a virus infecting the planet, not a superior race of beings the planet was intended to serve.
