No, we've always been arrogant and complacent. In fact, that pretty much sums up the most common qualities in Americans. When the Delta variation showed it had no regard for children I thought that would entice people to rethink their position on masks and vaccines, but no, even the thought of losing a child hasn't overcome the ignorance that has become the dominant force in American politics.
