We have functioning nuclear power plants all over the country and any problems they present were solved years ago. However, they can't be competitive with fossel fuels in our market based capitalist economy. The only thing preventing the expansion and further development of this energy source is capitalism and our government's commitment to it, even at the cost of life on earth.

The answer to this is nationalizing our energy industry. The initial cost of a nuclear plant is not a factor to our currency-issuing government, and it would provide for a massive increase in technical and construction jobs as a major bonus. The concept of government needing to "pay for" such an enormous benefit to the country and the world is soon to be seen as the propaganda and false economics that it is.

If we approach our energy/climate crisis with the all out effort it warrants, similar to the effort we put into defeating the Nazis, nuclear is the only possible way to go, and we can "afford" anything that can be resourced in the private sector with our sovereign fiat currency that isn't dependent upon tax revenue or borrowing.
