"We must act at the planetary level to eliminate institutions refusing to end their promotion of fossil fuels while devoting most of their wealth to correcting the damage they have done. "
Corporations have no incentive to agree to their own demise and the power they hold over our elected government is their only protection against such a demise. This makes it highly counterproductive to expect the "funding" for future damage mitigation to come from taxing them. They only dig in deeper and become more protectionist when given such an option.
Even asking "where will we find the money to save humanity?" is evidence of our foolishness when money is not limited to the monopoly issuer of the nation's currency. By beginning any appropriate conversation with capitulation to a false narrative we only guarantee our failure. We "should" heavily tax any dangerous activity/product, but not with the intention of "funding" opposition to it.
If we limit our actions to what we can "fund" in such a manner we will see declining success as profits from the product/activity diminish as a result of the taxation. This is especially self-defeating when the state has no need for funding of its spending and is only limited by the real resources available to it.
