Clearly correct. However, it wasn't always so. MLK was a Republican because of the party's support of the civil rights movement. That support, and JFK were what motivated the seismic shift in both parties on racial issues. The John Birch society was considered too toxic for either party until the GOP saw an opening in the Dem's dominance in the south. They have been courting crazy's ever since.
Even as supportive of civil rights as JFK was, his foreign policy was extremely hawkish and Dems have stayed consistent with that. They are, in spite of popular rhetoric to the contrary, equally supportive of imperialism and regime change foreign policy.
